When you drive to Solitaire from Sossusvlei, about 40km north of Solitaire you will pass the Tropic of Capricorn.  It is a must stop for everyone who wants a unique photo opportunity.  We were no different from many other tourists doing the same thing.

With the sun quickly setting behind our backs, we couldn't resist taking a few more photos of this beautiful landscape and with still 40km to drive, we rushed to the Country Lodge and Campground in Solitaire.  The camp sites are quite large with clean showers and toilets.

 

Solitaire is a small settlement which currently features the only petrol station, post office, and general dealer in the area.  There is also a restaurant and bar that serves set menu's for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a bakery that serves a famous apple pie.

 
 

Many cars die in the Namibian desert.  Their old rusty wrecks found their home here in Solitaire and are now a welcome attraction for many tourists.  We really enjoyed taking pictures of these veterans during sunset, with the sky full of stars and later a sunrise.
